We view part of the old city walls, explore the site of Skiddy's Castle, the site of King's & Queen's Castles and the Marine Gate and the waterways that ran through the Norman City. The Modern City Tour (1690 - 2009) |
2pm | The Expanding City Tour begins with the siege of Cork in 1690 and visits the old city wall, the Courthouse, Fenn's Quay, Patrick Street, Oliver Plunkett Street, the English Market, etc. . We visit the Crawford Gallery & Cork Opera House. Topics covered include: the development old city quays & waterways, the growth of trade & population, the Great Famine, railway & port developments, the War of Independence & the burning of Cork. |

We see where St. Finbarre built his monastery, where the Vikings settled, we explore the mediaeval city streets and view the city walls. We also see where the modern city grew up.
